Arts & Crafts in Our Homes

At Sai Care Homes, we view creativity as a vital form of communication. For many of our residents - especially those living with dementia or limited mobility - art can offer a voice when words are difficult to find.

Our approach to arts and crafts goes far beyond simple entertainment; we treat our sessions as therapeutic moments for our residents. Our goal is to stimulate mental agility, spark memories, and maintain essential fine motor skills through the joy of making.

A Person-Centred Approach to Creativity

We know that every individual has their own history and passions. Perhaps your mother was a keen knitter, or your father loved to sketch. We don't believe those hobbies should stop just because care needs have changed.

In line with our person-centred philosophy, we listen closely to our residents and day guests. We ask what they enjoy, and we tailor our supplies and sessions to match their interests. If a resident has a specific hobby they want to share with the group, we encourage that leadership, fostering a sense of purpose and community.

Making Our House Their Home

One of the unique aspects of life at Sai Care Homes is the pride our residents take in their environment. Our arts and crafts sessions often revolve around the calendar, allowing residents to play a central role in decorating the home for festive occasions.

From hand-crafting spooky decorations for Halloween to creating personalised baubles and wreaths for Christmas, our residents transform the living spaces. This involvement ensures that Sai Care Homes feels like their home, not just a place where they stay.

Activities to Suit Every Ability

We offer a flexible, supportive environment where the focus is on enjoyment and engagement, not perfection. While we are happy to arrange specific activities based on a resident's care plan, some of our most popular therapeutic sessions include:

  • Painting & Drawing: Excellent for expression and hand-eye coordination.

  • Card Making: Keeping residents connected to family and friends on special occasions.

  • Scrapbooking: A wonderful way to engage in reminiscence therapy.

  • Knitting & Sewing: Maintaining dexterity and familiar muscle memory.
